About

Three Random Words brings you illustrations of random, three-word phrases every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It was created by Rob Getz, which is me, in May of 2012.  The idea came to me one night when I was trying to think of something that could keep me productive other than my normal day job. I needed something to spur ideas in my head so that I wasn't compelled to just draw random, geometric doodles (which is something I'm prone to doing). So I found a random word generator, generated the words Delicately Doodling Invader, and the rest is history.

I was always kind of afraid of putting my own work out there for other people to see, mostly because it's awful, but also because it's terrible and I was fearful that the entire Internet would point a loathing finger at me and say "Stop putting this crap in our pool." Strangely enough, I got over this by reading through the ENTIRE archived work of Jeph Jacques webcomic Questionable Content. It was inspiring to sit and read through everything in a few short days and see the progression from that very first comic to the comics as they are today. I had a similar experience years ago going through the Penny Arcade archive. A list of the people, blogs, and comics that have influenced my work, or my presence online, would be quite long, but I'll mention a few: Hyperbole and a Half, The Oatmeal, XKCD, Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal, Tobuscus, Nerf This, and TwoKinds are just a few.

Three Random Words now stretches across this blog, a Facebook page, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, and even Deviantart. I hope you are, have been, and will be enjoying the illustrations and fictional snippets. Thanks for your views and support.
